Description

The engineering manager for processing oversees plant engineering, equipment reliability and maintenance in a processing environment. The role ensures that automated production assets operate safely and efficiently, leads technical teams and coordinates engineering projects that support product quality, throughput and continuity. This position is part of processing-plant engineering and maintenance and contributes to reliable, professional day-to-day delivery. The successful candidate will follow established procedures, maintain accurate information and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop maintenance strategies, inspection plans and shutdown schedules for processing equipment and plant utilities.
  • Lead troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical and control-system faults and coordinate safe repairs.
  • Manage engineering projects, equipment upgrades, commissioning and operational handover.
  • Review downtime, reliability and maintenance-cost data, setting priorities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, engineering and documentation requirements.

A practical understanding of the function, sound prioritisation and timely escalation will help protect quality, safety, cost and customer commitments.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A degree in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or a closely related engineering discipline is relevant.
  • Eight to ten years of engineering experience and several years of leadership are useful benchmarks.
  • Food, poultry or other automated processing-plant experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of maintenance planning, equipment controls, reliability methods and project delivery is beneficial.

Candidates should show relevant experience, learn local procedures quickly and meet any required statutory or professional standards.

Skills and Competencies

The role calls for deep technical judgement, team leadership, structured troubleshooting and strong coordination with production and quality teams. A hands-on improvement mindset helps balance equipment performance, costs, food safety and worker safety.
