Description
Maintain the availability, performance, scalability and resilience of enterprise technology platforms supporting business operations. The senior Linux administrator provides technical direction for infrastructure design, system implementation, monitoring and incident recovery. Working with internal IT teams and external suppliers, the role translates logical designs into robust environments, documents standards, improves continuity arrangements and helps ensure platforms remain secure, supportable and aligned with business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure and administer Linux-based platforms and supporting infrastructure in line with approved architecture standards.
- Monitor capacity, performance, availability and incident trends, prioritising issues and coordinating root-cause resolution.
- Support infrastructure projects through technical design, implementation planning, integration testing and operational handover.
- Develop system specifications, configuration standards, administration procedures and operations documentation.
- Contribute to service-continuity, backup, recovery and contingency planning, and test the effectiveness of recovery routines.
- Evaluate technology lifecycle risks, benchmark solutions and plan updates or replacements to reduce obsolescence.
Requirements
- Demonstrate substantial hands-on Linux administration experience in a business-critical environment.
- Understand system availability, access controls, capacity planning, performance tuning and incident management.
- Be comfortable coordinating with other IT disciplines and external service providers.
- Maintain accurate configurations, technical documentation and operational procedures.
Qualifications
- Relevant IT, computer science or systems engineering qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience with enterprise Linux platforms, scripting, virtualisation or cloud infrastructure is beneficial.
- Knowledge of monitoring, backup/recovery and service-management practices is expected.
