Description
This specialist position supports food technology across high-volume manufacturing for airline catering, foodservice and retail products. The role leads investigation of complex product, process and quality challenges and provides technical guidance across teams. It also contributes to innovation projects involving product development, shelf-life extension, waste reduction, cost optimisation and improvements to manufacturing performance. The successful applicant should be organised, dependable and committed to following operating procedures while helping the team deliver reliable results.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate complex product and process deviations using scientific research, structured experiments and interpretation of analytical data.
- Translate findings into practical solutions that improve product quality, manufacturing consistency and operating performance.
- Provide technical support for new product development and reformulation, including benchtop trials, scale-up testing and formulation evaluation.
- Assess new processes and methods to improve quality, minimise waste, support cost efficiency and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Work with ingredient and equipment suppliers, universities and internal specialists to validate ideas and apply relevant technical best practice.
- Document technical findings, prepare presentations and share knowledge with cross-functional teams.
- Help develop technical standards and mentor less experienced food technologists while contributing to continuous improvement projects.
Requirements
- Strong technical understanding of food products, manufacturing processes and quality-related problem solving.
- Ability to plan experiments, analyse results and turn technical findings into clear recommendations.
- A structured approach to product development, process improvement, waste reduction and compliance.
- Effective written communication and collaboration skills for working with technical, operational and supplier teams.
Qualifications and Skills
- Food science, food technology, food engineering or a closely related discipline is relevant to the role.
- Experience in high-volume food manufacturing, product development or process troubleshooting would be valuable; exact minimum thresholds were not confirmed.
