Senior Sous Chef

The Senior Sous Chef provides hands-on leadership for kitchen production and supports the delivery of consistent meals at the required volume and quality. Working with executive and senior chefs, the role coordinates workflow, staffing, supplies and quality controls. It also helps maintain food safety, improve resource use and resolve operational issues before they affect production targets or service delivery. The successful applicant should be organised, dependable and committed to following operating procedures while helping the team deliver reliable results.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee kitchen preparation and production activities to meet daily output targets and service deadlines.
• Plan staff deployment and coordinate equipment, ingredients and capacity to match production requirements.
• Check compliance with recipes, food safety procedures, portion standards, labelling and presentation requirements.
• Monitor kitchen performance and resolve routine problems, escalating more complex issues with clear updates.
• Support team training, coaching and consistent use of standard operating procedures.
• Track stock use and waste and support practical actions to improve efficiency and cost control.
• Coordinate with other departments and suppliers to maintain reliable production and timely handovers.

Requirements

• Strong experience in professional kitchen operations and the ability to lead production teams.
• Sound understanding of food hygiene, recipe compliance and production quality controls.
• Good planning, communication and resource-management skills.
• Ability to make practical decisions under pressure while maintaining quality and safety.

Qualifications and Skills

• Culinary training or equivalent professional kitchen experience is relevant.
