Description

The Resident Medical Officer - Pediatrics/NICU/PICU supports the treating team in caring for newborns, children and adolescents in paediatric wards and higher-acuity neonatal or paediatric settings. The role contributes to clinical assessment, treatment implementation, monitoring and documentation while escalating changes in condition to the responsible senior clinician. Safe care depends on timely communication with nursing staff, specialists and families and on thorough handovers between shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess paediatric patients, obtain relevant medical and medication histories and document findings in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist the treating team in implementing care plans for paediatric, neonatal and intensive-care patients within assigned privileges.
  • Monitor clinical progress, respond promptly to medical complaints and escalate deterioration or abnormal findings to senior clinicians.
  • Coordinate investigations and patient care with paediatricians, nurses, laboratory, radiology and other relevant disciplines.
  • Prepare accurate progress notes, clinical justifications, transfers and discharge documentation as required by hospital policy.
  • Complete structured handovers, participate in departmental activities and follow infection-control and patient-safety requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Medicine or an equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Relevant hospital experience and familiarity with paediatric care are important; neonatal or paediatric intensive-care exposure is beneficial.
  • Ability to document clinical decisions accurately and work within professional scope and departmental supervision.
  • Applicable UAE healthcare licensing or eligibility requirements must be met for the duties assigned.

Skills and Working Approach

The position calls for careful observation, prompt escalation, compassionate communication with families and collaborative work in a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should be able to prioritise urgent needs, maintain confidentiality and follow evidence-based paediatric and neonatal protocols.
