Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer

Provide specialist medium-voltage electrical engineering support for port, terminal and infrastructure projects, with particular emphasis on safe power distribution, modernization and electrification. The role combines engineering design, field assessment, supplier review, commissioning support and electrical safety training. It is suited to an experienced engineer who can translate technical requirements into practical solutions while maintaining rigorous standards for arc-flash protection, isolation, testing and safe energisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site surveys, load assessments and infrastructure reviews to identify modernization and electrification opportunities.
• Prepare and review single-line diagrams, cable sizing, layouts, protection philosophies, earthing and bonding concepts.
• Support MV substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, cables and associated installation interfaces.
• Review technical submissions from suppliers and subcontractors and assess compliance with project requirements.
• Support design reviews, method statements, risk assessments, FAT/SAT, commissioning plans and technical handover.
• Provide technical input during insulation, VLF or hi-pot, transformer, relay, continuity, phasing and earthing tests.
• Deliver practical electrical safety and arc-flash training covering switching, LOTO, permits, grounding and PPE.
• Maintain training, competency and certification records and support customer governance requirements.
• Work with engineering, maintenance, operations, procurement, HSE and business-development teams.
• Ensure work complies with applicable electrical standards, local regulations, site rules and safety policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification with strong MV experience.
• At least 5 years of relevant medium-voltage experience; deeper senior-level experience is advantageous.
• Recognized MV/HV authorization and electrical safety or arc-flash certification is strongly preferred.
• Practical knowledge of switchgear, transformers, protection, cable systems, testing, commissioning and LOTO.
• Training, communication and customer-facing field experience, with knowledge of tools such as ETAP or equivalent, is desirable.
