Patient Care Assistant – ICU/HDU

University Hospital Sharjah is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to support the nursing team in the ICU/HDU environment. The role provides essential non-licensed patient-care and clinical-support services under the direction of registered nurses. The successful candidate will help maintain patient comfort, dignity and safety while assisting with mobility, nutrition, room preparation, transportation and general clinical-area support. Careful attention to infection prevention and hospital procedures is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist registered nurses with basic patient-care activities within the permitted scope of the role.
• Help patients with positioning, turning, moving and transportation using stretchers or wheelchairs.
• Maintain clean, safe and organized patient rooms and clinical areas.
• Act as a chaperone when required while protecting patient dignity and privacy.
• Deliver and return meal trays, observe fluid intake and communicate relevant information to the assigned nurse.
• Assist patients who require support with eating and other basic comfort needs.
• Make unoccupied beds and assist nursing staff with occupied-bed preparation.
• Weigh ambulatory patients and support routine non-licensed care activities.
• Prepare and restock clinical areas and supply rooms as directed.
• Accompany patients to diagnostic services such as X-ray, ECG and CT when assigned.
• Assist with cleaning after procedures and handle used instruments according to standard precautions.
• Report equipment problems, unsafe conditions and incidents promptly through the appropriate channels.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of nursing, assistant or healthcare-related experience.
• Proficient verbal and written English.
• Ability to work cooperatively with nurses and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Previous UAE hospital experience is an advantage.
• Experience in an internationally accredited hospital is an advantage.
