Description

The Fleet Superintendent supports the safe, compliant and efficient operation of assigned vessels across the fleet. The role acts as a key point of contact between vessels and shore-based management, following up on operational issues, client concerns, inspections, maintenance matters and regulatory requirements. It ensures that vessel records and certificates remain current and that findings from audits, port-state inspections and client reviews are closed within required timeframes. The superintendent also monitors operational performance, supports vessel readiness for on-hire acceptance and coordinates service providers and other support functions. Strong marine experience and familiarity with fleet standards are important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the shore-side contact for assigned vessels and coordinate communication with operations, fleet and technical management.
  • Ensure vessels follow company procedures and relevant ISO, ISM, MLC, ISPS, flag-state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor client concerns, inspection findings, audit actions and non-conformities, ensuring timely closure and accurate records.
  • Prepare vessels for client inspections and on-hire acceptance, including pre-inspections and follow-up of outstanding items.
  • Coordinate class and statutory inspections, certificate renewals, lifting-appliance checks and required vessel documentation.
  • Monitor vessel status, defects, fuel information, service performance, support orders and operational commitments.
  • Support docking and ship-repair activities and recommend improvements to vessel availability and fleet efficiency.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Master Certificate of Competency is listed as the minimum professional qualification.
  • At least five years of experience supervising a large vessel fleet.
  • Experience with multi-purpose and heavy-lift vessel management is relevant.
  • Knowledge of marine operating standards, management accounting, cost control and regulatory compliance is important.
  • Professional qualifications in shipping, logistics or supply-chain management are desirable.

Skills and Employment Details

  • Fleet operations and vessel compliance.
  • Audit, inspection and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Communication with vessel crews, clients and shore teams.
  • Cost awareness, reporting and continuous improvement.
