The Cost Analyst helps management understand operating costs and identify practical opportunities to improve financial performance. Key Responsibilities
- Collect and validate cost data from relevant operational, purchasing and finance records.
- Compare actual costs with budgets, forecasts and prior periods, investigating significant differences.
- Prepare clear cost reports and analysis that help managers understand financial trends and drivers.
- Support forecasting, budget preparation and tracking of cost-saving initiatives.
- Review consumption, purchasing or operating patterns to identify unusual movements and possible efficiencies.
- Work with business teams to check assumptions, clarify results and improve the reliability of cost information.
- Maintain organised analysis files and follow financial controls, reporting timetables and confidentiality requirements.
Requirements
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence working with spreadsheets, financial data and structured reporting processes.
- Attention to detail and the ability to explain findings in clear business language.
- A collaborative approach to investigating cost variances and identifying realistic improvements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Finance, accounting, economics, business or a related analytical background is relevant to the role.
