Description
The Civil Engineer supports the condition, reliability and upkeep of civil assets and building fabric throughout a facility. The role includes assessing defects, coordinating preventive maintenance, supervising civil repairs and helping plan refurbishment work. It also involves using maintenance-management systems and preparing technical information so recurring issues can be investigated and corrective work can be prioritised.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out visual and suitable non-destructive inspections for cracks, concrete defects, dampness, leaks and joint movement.
- Oversee maintenance of roofs, cladding, curtain walls, waterproofing, exterior finishes and related building elements.
- Monitor civil infrastructure such as roads, parking areas, boundary walls, drainage networks and manholes.
- Plan and update preventive maintenance routines for civil assets using CAFM or CMMS tools.
- Prioritise reactive work orders for masonry, ceilings, tiling, doors, windows and waterproofing repairs.
- Investigate recurring defects and prepare technical findings and long-term corrective recommendations.
- Prepare bills of quantities, material specifications and cost estimates for minor refurbishment work.
- Assist with operational and capital expenditure planning for civil asset maintenance and replacement.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Three to seven or more years of relevant civil asset or building-maintenance experience.
- Experience with civil infrastructure, building fabric and structural repairs in operating facilities.
- Ability to coordinate maintenance work and prepare technical reports or cost estimates.
- Familiarity with CAFM or CMMS maintenance workflows is useful.
- A relevant civil engineering qualification is appropriate for the position.
Skills and Competencies
The role calls for defect assessment, planning, documentation, contractor coordination, cost awareness and systematic problem-solving. Attention to safety, quality and the long-term condition of assets is essential.
