Accounting Manager

The American University in Dubai is recruiting an Accounting Manager to oversee its accounting operations and financial bookkeeping. The role manages key finance functions and ensures accurate reporting and compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), UAE VAT regulations and applicable corporate tax requirements. The manager will strengthen financial controls and support the university’s financial governance and planning activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting cycle and ensure timely month-end and year-end closing.
• Review journal entries, accruals and prepaid expenses, maintain the general ledger and reconcile balance-sheet accounts.
• Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
• Supervise accounts payable, vendor payments, accounts receivable, tuition billing, collections and revenue recognition.
• Oversee bank and credit-card reconciliations, cash-position reports and grant-fund records.
• Manage UAE VAT reporting, support corporate tax compliance and prepare financial reports required by authorities.
• Maintain the fixed-asset register and oversee capitalization, depreciation, disposals and physical verification.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and management reporting; improve procedures and identify automation opportunities.
• Coordinate external audits, prepare audit schedules and resolve auditor queries.

Requirements and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field is required, together with a professional qualification such as CIMA, CPA, ACCA or ACA. Applicants should have 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including managerial responsibility. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Banner or similar accounting software, advanced Excel and financial reporting is required.

Skills

Strong knowledge of IFRS and UAE tax regulations, integrity, professional ethics, attention to detail, analytical thinking and problem-solving ability are essential. Candidates should be able to prioritise work and coordinate several finance activities accurately.
