Description
The American University in Dubai is inviting applications for an Academic Advisor to guide undergraduate students through their degree programmes and registration requirements. The position supports students during each academic term, helping them understand course requirements, make suitable choices and plan their studies. The advisor works with other advisors, faculty and university offices to encourage academic progress and successful programme completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advising during normal working hours and through appointments throughout each semester.
- Guide students before and during registration, considering programme requirements, prerequisites, course sequencing and academic policies.
- Review and approve course registration, drop/add requests and course withdrawal forms.
- Help students develop study plans that support timely graduation and balanced course selections.
- Assist undecided students and those considering a programme or concentration change.
- Support students facing academic difficulties and refer curriculum or policy issues to the Provost or relevant Dean when needed.
- Maintain accurate advising records, contribute to assessment reports and coordinate with Admissions, the Registrar and Student Affairs.
- Teach one course of up to four credits in each Fall and Spring semester.
Requirements and Qualifications
A master’s degree from a recognised, accredited university is required; doctoral degree holders will also be considered. Previous teaching experience with strong teaching-effectiveness ratings is essential. Training in academic advising and significant advising experience in a Western higher-education system are advantages. Candidates should understand the curriculum and programme structure of the discipline they will advise.

Excellent written and spoken communication, a commitment to student success and the ability to understand individual needs are important. Applicants should work effectively with a culturally diverse student body and collaborate with advisors, administrators, faculty and staff.
