Description
Emirates Global Aluminium is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal support to its marketing and sales, commodity trading and supply chain activities. Based in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, the role supports commercial operations across multiple jurisdictions and advises on matters involving aluminium sales, commodity purchases, offtake arrangements and the procurement of key raw materials such as bauxite and alumina. The successful candidate will work closely with senior business leaders and report to the General Counsel and Head of Ethics and Business Integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including aluminium sales contracts, offtake agreements, commodity purchase contracts, tolling arrangements, agency and distribution agreements.
- Advise on transaction structures, trading terms, pricing mechanisms, delivery obligations and the allocation of commercial risk.
- Provide legal support to international sales offices and overseas production and recycling operations.
- Identify, assess and manage legal and commercial risks across marketing, sales and supply chain contracts.
- Coordinate with external legal advisers in relevant jurisdictions and manage instructions to obtain specialist local-law advice.
- Identify potential disputes early and work with business teams to resolve disagreements commercially where possible.
- Assist with litigation or arbitration connected with metal sales and commodity trading, and advise on applicable sanctions, trade compliance and anti-corruption requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates must hold a law degree from an internationally reputable university and a legal qualification that permits practice in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada or another common-law jurisdiction. At least ten years of post-qualification experience is required, ideally combining training at a leading international law firm with in-house work in a multinational business. Demonstrated commercial-law experience in commodity sales, trading, marketing, offtake agreements or related transactions in metals, mining, energy or natural resources is important.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of cross-border commercial transactions and practical risk management.
- Clear communication and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Sound organisation, adaptability and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
Work Location
The role may be based in either Dubai or Abu Dhabi and supports a broad international commercial portfolio.
