Outpatient Coding Officer (Corniche Hospital)

Job Overview

The Outpatient Coding Officer at Corniche Hospital is responsible for accurately reviewing outpatient and emergency medical records, assigning diagnosis and procedure codes, validating charges and supporting compliant healthcare revenue-cycle processes. The role requires strong knowledge of clinical documentation, coding references and UAE regulatory coding requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Review electronic, paper or hybrid outpatient and emergency health records to determine appropriate diagnoses, procedures and billable services.
• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes accurately and completely in accordance with official coding guidelines and supporting documentation.
• Capture appropriate charges for emergency-department records and validate charges against the clinical record when required.
• Review the relationship between diagnoses and procedures and apply appropriate modifiers where applicable.
• Use encoder applications, online references and approved coding tools to support accurate code assignment.
• Apply UAE regulatory coding requirements together with recognized ICD-10-CM, CPT and professional coding guidance.
• Use retrospective edit tools to identify and address potential coding or documentation issues.
• Communicate with physicians and relevant departments when additional documentation or clarification is required.
• Maintain accuracy, completeness, confidentiality and ethical standards in all coding activities.
• Support healthcare revenue-cycle integrity by identifying documentation and coding issues that could affect claims or reimbursement.

Requirements

• CPC or AHIMA certification is required.
• Extensive knowledge of healthcare revenue-cycle systems and outpatient coding processes.
• Ability to interpret provider documentation and determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
• Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and official coding guidelines.
• Ability to use encoder software and online coding references efficiently.
• Good communication skills and the ability to obtain clarification from physicians and clinical departments when needed.
