Ophthalmology Consultant

Job Overview

SEHA is seeking an Ophthalmology Consultant to provide comprehensive, evidence-based specialist care and clinical leadership. The consultant will manage inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology cases, support junior clinicians, participate in multidisciplinary care, contribute to quality improvement and maintain compliance with DOH and SEHA standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise high-quality ophthalmology care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up.
• Conduct detailed patient examinations and histories and order or interpret appropriate diagnostic investigations.
• Develop comprehensive treatment plans and perform procedures within the consultant's licensed scope of practice.
• Lead or participate in ward rounds and manage both inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology cases.
• Supervise, guide and teach junior physicians, specialists and residents as applicable.
• Collaborate with other specialties and support services to provide coordinated, patient-centred care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions and clinical governance activities.
• Provide rotational out-of-hours/on-call coverage when required.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation, informed consent and compliance with infection-control and patient-safety requirements.
• Participate in clinical audits, peer review, quality-improvement initiatives, continuing medical education and research.

Requirements

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Completion of an approved ophthalmology specialty training program and recognized postgraduate/specialist qualification.
• Relevant post-specialty clinical experience; the published posting indicates approximately 3–7 years depending on qualification and licensing tier.
• Eligibility for or valid DOH Abu Dhabi medical licence, including required primary-source verification and good-standing documentation.
• Strong clinical leadership, communication, decision-making and multidisciplinary-care skills.
• Arabic and English fluency is stated as required in the published listing.
