Description

Oversee the operational and compliance performance of an assigned marine fleet, ensuring vessels remain safe, compliant, commercially available and properly supported. The Fleet Superintendent acts as a central coordination point between vessels, operations, technical teams, clients, vendors and management. The position covers statutory requirements, inspections, vessel readiness, maintenance support, documentation, fuel monitoring, purchasing controls and service coordination, with particular focus on multipurpose and heavy-lift vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary operational contact for assigned vessels and maintain regular communication with Masters and shore teams.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ISO, ISM, ISPS, MLC, flag-state, class and local regulatory requirements.
  • Track surveys, certificates, inspections, audit findings and corrective actions and ensure timely close-out.
  • Support vessel readiness for client inspections, on-hire acceptance, class surveys and flag-state inspections.
  • Monitor vessel defects, operational performance, fuel usage, safety equipment, samples and maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate vendors, agents, catering and other support services while monitoring purchase orders and invoices.
  • Support docking, ship repair, lifting-gear inspections and technical improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate vessel records, operational trackers, manuals, certificates and shared documentation.
  • Participate in operational meetings and escalate issues affecting availability, safety or customer commitments.
  • Promote continuous improvement, efficient resource use and proactive resolution of operational risks.

Requirements

  • Master Certificate of Competency or equivalent professional marine qualification.
  • At least 5 years of experience supervising a large fleet or comparable marine operation.
  • Strong experience with multipurpose/heavy-lift vessels and marine operating standards.
  • Working knowledge of ISM, ISPS, MLC, class, flag-state and environmental requirements.
  • Good cost-control, reporting, communication and problem-solving skills; international experience is advantageous.
