Description
The Ecommerce Architect guides the design of scalable and resilient digital commerce applications across enterprise platforms, custom software, SaaS services and cloud infrastructure. The role translates business priorities into end-to-end solution designs and helps teams make sound choices about integration, security, performance and maintainability. It also supports modernization and practical adoption of AI-enabled capabilities within the wider technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Define reusable architecture patterns for modular commerce applications, APIs, services, data flows and connections with enterprise business systems.
- Assess solution alternatives, document trade-offs and risks, and advise delivery teams so implemented systems remain aligned with approved design decisions.
- Partner with data and product teams on useful AI, recommendation, intelligent search and automation use cases, considering security and responsible use.
- Guide cloud platform and DevOps decisions, including deployment patterns, CI/CD, observability, scalability, resilience and cost considerations.
- Coordinate with integration, security, infrastructure and enterprise architecture specialists; maintain diagrams, decision records and technical review documents.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bring substantial application-development experience, including ten or more years across technical or solution architecture and at least five years in architecture-focused work.
- Demonstrate experience designing enterprise-scale e-commerce applications and integrating custom software, SaaS and packaged business platforms.
- Have practical experience with Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, APIs, middleware, application security and production operations.
- Hands-on programming in Java, Python or a comparable language is expected; experience with a commerce platform such as SAP Commerce is beneficial.
- Be able to mentor engineers, evaluate technical risk and communicate architecture choices to business and technology stakeholders.
