Carpenter

The Carpenter carries out woodworking, fitting and repair tasks that help keep buildings, furniture and fixtures safe and serviceable. Work may include doors, windows, cabinets, partitions and other wooden items. The role requires accurate measuring, careful use of tools and attention to finish quality, with work completed according to maintenance requests and site safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Measure, cut, shape and fit wood and related materials for assigned repair or installation work.
• Repair or adjust doors, windows, cabinets, furniture and other wooden fixtures.
• Check measurements and alignment before cutting, fixing or fitting materials.
• Select appropriate tools and materials for each task and keep them in good condition.
• Inspect completed work for stability, fit, finish and safe operation.
• Protect surrounding areas and keep the worksite clean during and after the job.
• Report material shortages, damaged fixtures or work requiring specialist assistance.
• Coordinate with the maintenance team and update the supervisor on job status.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Practical woodworking, carpentry, fitting or repair experience.
• Ability to measure accurately and use carpentry tools safely.
• Attention to finishing quality and safe installation.
• Good problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to follow work orders and complete tasks reliably.

Skills and Competencies

Accuracy, hand-eye coordination, practical judgement, tool care and a careful approach to safety are important. The successful candidate should work methodically, keep materials organised and communicate clearly when a repair needs additional parts or support.
