Description
Manage the technical operation and maintenance of vessels under assigned responsibility, ensuring they remain safe, efficient, compliant and commercially available. The Technical Superintendent oversees maintenance, repairs, surveys, budgets, inspections and docking activities while coordinating with Masters, Chief Engineers, shipyards, contractors, classification bodies and internal procurement teams. The role also supports technical documentation, planned maintenance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily technical maintenance, repair, inspection and operational readiness of assigned vessels.
- Ensure vessels comply with class, statutory, flag-state and company technical requirements.
- Maintain classification status and coordinate surveys, inspections and certification activities.
- Monitor planned preventive maintenance and verify effective onboard implementation.
- Prepare dry-docking specifications and supervise repair and docking work through completion.
- Coordinate shipyards, subcontractors, class representatives and administration on technical activities.
- Manage technical purchasing, spare parts and service requirements while controlling costs.
- Maintain vessel technical libraries, plans, drawings, maintenance records and PMS information.
- Support tender preparation, repair-yard selection and technical-service evaluations.
- Prepare technical reports and cost information while promoting IMCA and recognized industry practices.
Requirements
- Unlimited STCW Chief Engineer license or a mechanical/electromechanical engineering degree or diploma.
- Relevant marine technical-management experience, including vessel maintenance and dry-docking.
- Strong knowledge of planned maintenance systems, class and statutory requirements.
- Experience coordinating shipyards, contractors, suppliers and technical service providers.
- Excellent technical, analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
