Description
Emirates Global Aluminium is seeking a Control Room Operator to support the safe and reliable operation of power-generation equipment and related utility services. The role focuses on maintaining continuous plant operations across assigned gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, auxiliary systems and associated equipment. The operator may be assigned control-room or field duties and works under the direction of the shift supervisor or main control room team.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and operate assigned gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, auxiliaries and essential plant services.
- Carry out safe start-up and shutdown activities for turbines and related systems when assigned control-room responsibility.
- Operate potline rectifier transformers from the control room in accordance with approved instructions.
- Record routine operating readings, identify abnormal trends and report deviations promptly to the supervisor or system controller.
- Coordinate with relevant customers and respond to day-to-day operational issues under the system controller’s guidance.
- Follow operating instructions, emergency procedures and approved safety practices at all times.
- Assist with routine tests, recommissioning after maintenance outages and checks to ensure standby equipment is ready for use.
- Maintain clean and orderly work areas and support on-the-job training when required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates should hold a Diploma in Engineering or an equivalent qualification and have at least three years of experience in the operations department of a modern power station. Applicants should be familiar with the equipment within a power-generation environment and understand the importance of controlled start-up, shutdown and operating procedures.
Skills and Competencies
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of an operations team.
- Ability to monitor plant parameters, recognise abnormal operating conditions and escalate concerns quickly.
- A safety-focused approach, sound judgement and the ability to follow technical instructions accurately.
- Willingness to build technical competence and support colleagues through practical, on-the-job guidance.
