Description
The Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Operator supports the safe and steady operation of wastewater-treatment equipment. The role involves monitoring plant conditions, running pumps and related equipment, checking water quality and carrying out routine maintenance. Accurate observation and timely reporting help identify abnormal conditions early and keep plant operations aligned with safety and environmental procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor STP equipment, pumps and associated plant systems.
- Check process conditions and water-quality readings according to site instructions.
- Inspect equipment for unusual noise, vibration, leaks or other signs of malfunction.
- Carry out basic routine maintenance and troubleshooting within the scope of the role.
- Maintain cleanliness and order around equipment and designated plant areas.
- Record readings, inspections, maintenance tasks and abnormal conditions in operating logs.
- Report faults, unusual results or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Follow operating procedures, personal protective equipment rules and site safety requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Basic experience operating a sewage treatment plant or similar facility.
- Knowledge of STP equipment, pumps and wastewater-treatment processes.
- Ability to carry out routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Good observation and reporting skills.
- Awareness of safety rules and good work practices.
Skills and Competencies
The role requires attention to process changes, reliable record keeping, practical equipment awareness and the discipline to follow operating procedures. Candidates should communicate issues clearly and cooperate with maintenance and operations colleagues to help maintain stable plant performance.
