Description
The MEP Draughtsman prepares accurate mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings for engineering and construction projects. The role works closely with engineers, architects and site teams to develop coordinated shop drawings, design details and as-built records. It helps ensure that building services are represented clearly and fit within the overall project design.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare MEP shop drawings, coordination drawings and as-built drawings using AutoCAD or relevant software.
- Coordinate drawings with architectural, structural and MEP disciplines to identify and resolve clashes.
- Visit sites to collect measurements, verify existing conditions and confirm installation requirements.
- Revise drawings to reflect client comments, consultant feedback and approved project changes.
- Maintain drawing registers and follow document-control procedures for revisions and issue status.
- Assist with technical submissions and provide drafting support during design and construction.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Qualification requirement: Relevant technical training or diploma in drafting/building services.
- Relevant technical training or a diploma in drafting, mechanical, electrical or building-services engineering is suitable.
- Experience preparing MEP drawings for construction projects is valuable.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is important; other drafting or BIM tools may be useful.
- The candidate should understand drawing conventions, coordination and document revisions.
- Good attention to detail and communication with engineers are required.
Skills and Competencies
The role requires accurate drafting, spatial awareness, coordination and careful version control. The draughtsman should be able to interpret engineer mark-ups, manage drawing updates and identify possible service conflicts. Site awareness and the ability to meet deadlines will support smooth project delivery.
