Job Overview
Khalifa University is recruiting a Post Doctoral Fellow for research into the geological, glacial, and periglacial history of polar regions on Mars. The project will examine Antarctic field observations and samples as analogues for Martian landscapes, using ground data and remote-sensing information to improve understanding of past climatic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research with appropriate guidance and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences.
- Analyze samples and field observations from the Schirmacher Oasis and compare findings with relevant remote-sensing information.
- Interpret in-situ measurements and planetary datasets to investigate similarities between polar terrestrial landscapes and Mars.
- Analyze data expected from Antarctic monitoring stations planned through collaboration with polar research partners.
- Maintain accurate research records, document analytical methods, and report technical progress to the research team.
- Present results at seminars or international conferences when funding and project schedules allow.
- Work collaboratively with researchers and graduate students from different scientific disciplines and follow institutional safety and confidentiality requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A PhD from a reputable university in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline is required.
- Applicants need strong expertise in glacial or periglacial landscapes and experience producing scientific papers.
- Previous analogue fieldwork and familiarity with Mars-focused planetary science research are required or highly relevant.
- A PhD from a university ranked within the top 200 by QS or THE is specified.
- High-impact first-author publications in leading journals and strong English communication skills are expected.
Key Skills
- Geomorphological interpretation, scientific data analysis, and comparison of field and remote-sensing evidence.
- Scientific writing, conference presentation, and research-project organization.
- Collaborative working, independent problem-solving, and careful research documentation.
Work Approach
The successful candidate is expected to work professionally with colleagues and stakeholders, maintain reliable records, communicate progress clearly, and follow applicable university policies. Careful planning, responsible handling of information, attention to quality, and a willingness to improve processes will help support consistent outcomes in this role.
