SUB-OFFICER

Direct an on-station firefighting and rescue watch serving industrial operations and the surrounding community. The Sub-Officer helps organize crews, respond to emergencies, maintain operational readiness and deliver drills that strengthen safe, coordinated response to fires, rescues and other incidents.

The role requires collaboration across relevant teams, accurate documentation and early escalation of risks that may affect safety, quality or delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate watch personnel during emergency operations, rescue calls, exercises and daily readiness tasks.
• Assess incidents quickly and issue clear direction while maintaining the safety of responding crews.
• Plan or deliver drills and exercises to improve individual and team preparedness.
• Check readiness of response vehicles, firefighting equipment, breathing apparatus and rescue resources.
• Support reporting, safe work practices and improvement of emergency response procedures.

Requirements and Experience

• At least seven years as a firefighter in commercial, industrial, civil-defence or military service, or three years in a leading firefighter role, is relevant to the position.
• Fire Fighter I and II and Breathing Apparatus Wearer training are required.
• A valid driving licence, first-responder CPR/AED knowledge and strong incident judgement are important.

Qualifications

Secondary School; NFPA Fire Fighter I and II; Breathing Apparatus Wearer; NFPA Fire Officer and Instructor credentials; first aid/CPR with AED
