Description
The MCV Structural Engineer develops and reviews structural solutions for project cargo operations involving multi-purpose and heavy-lift vessels. The role focuses on grillage, sea-fastening and load-distribution designs that help secure cargo safely during lifting, loading, sea transport and discharge. The engineer assesses cargo weights, centres of gravity, load cases, deck capacity and vessel arrangements, then prepares calculations, technical reports and fabrication information. The position also provides engineering support during site activities and works closely with operations, fabrication, procurement, commercial teams, clients and classification stakeholders. Marine safety, technical accuracy and practical constructability are essential considerations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop grillage, sea-fastening, lashing and structural steel designs for project cargo and heavy-lift marine operations.
- Calculate load cases, cargo centre of gravity, load distribution, deck strength and structural response using suitable engineering methods.
- Prepare calculation packages, finite-element assessments, technical reports, fabrication drawings and material specifications.
- Review vessel, cargo and operational data and identify safe engineering solutions for loadout, lifting, securing, transport and discharge.
- Provide technical support during site inspections, fabrication, loadout and vessel operations, resolving engineering issues as they arise.
- Coordinate design reviews and approvals with clients, marine warranty surveyors, class societies, vendors and internal teams.
- Contribute to tender engineering, method statements, transport studies, risk assessments and continual improvement of technical procedures.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least five years of structural design or marine operations experience in heavy lift, transportation and installation, or deck-carrier environments.
- Experience with structural analysis tools such as STAAD, SACS, ANSYS or equivalent software.
- Understanding of classification requirements and relevant marine standards, including DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, IMO or marine warranty processes.
- Willingness to support project activities and travel when required.
Skills and Employment Details
- Structural calculations and engineering judgement.
- Marine cargo securing, deck loading and sea-fastening knowledge.
- Technical report writing and drawing review.
- Coordination with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Full-time engineering position based in Dubai, UAE, supporting multi-purpose and project-cargo vessel operations.
