Lab Specialist- Innovation Lab – UAEN

Job Overview

Khalifa University's Innovation Lab is seeking a Lab Specialist to support the GENS 101 Grand Challenges course. The role provides technical expertise in mechatronics, robotics, embedded systems, rapid prototyping and laboratory experimentation while mentoring student teams and supporting faculty during studio sessions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance for projects involving robotics, embedded systems, sensors, electronics and automation.
• Assist students with prototype design, fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting and system integration.
• Support experimental setup, data acquisition, calibration and interpretation.
• Mentor students in applying engineering-design and scientific-method principles.
• Prepare laboratories and equipment for teaching activities.
• Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory and fabrication equipment.
• Manage inventory, consumables and maintenance schedules.
• Ensure laboratory safety and provide equipment training.
• Assist instructors during studio sessions and demonstrations.
• Support development of new lab activities and recommend technical improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science with relevant practical experience; master's degree preferred.
• Hands-on knowledge of Arduino/ESP32/Raspberry Pi or similar platforms.
• Experience with sensors, actuators, motors, motor drivers and basic motion control.
• Electronics prototyping, soldering, PCB assembly and instrumentation skills.
• CAD experience with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or similar tools.
• Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC or rapid prototyping.
• Basic C/C++ and Python skills.
• Fluent English, strong troubleshooting and mentoring skills; IELTS 7+ is specified.
• UAEN eligibility is required for this position.
