Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer plans and selects the merchandise range, quality and quantities needed to meet customer demand, brand direction and sell-through targets. The role owns important buying activities, works closely with brand management and merchandising counterparts, and develops suppliers while protecting margin, timing and product relevance.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan seasonal merchandise ranges in line with brand positioning, customer demand, budget and sales targets.
• Develop assortment and investment plans, sourcing priorities and critical-path actions to support timely delivery.
• Negotiate with new and existing suppliers on product prices, payment terms, freight, training and promotional support.
• Maintain profitable supplier relationships and monitor adherence to agreed contract terms.
• Manage open-to-buy plans with the merchandise planning counterpart and track purchasing commitments.
• Coordinate the buying calendar, range building and product selection to deliver seasonal strategies.
• Work with Marketing and Visual Merchandising on seasonal product focus and category initiatives.
• Review weekly sales at style, range, category and business-unit level and recommend in-season adjustments.
• Conduct competitor reviews to identify product gaps and opportunities for future range development.

Requirements and Skills

• Experience in retail buying, category management or merchandise selection is relevant.
• Strong commercial judgement and understanding of budgets, margins and sell-through targets.
• Negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
• Analytical ability to interpret sales results, product movement and competitor activity.
• Planning, communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
