Description

The Senior Manager – Valuation Controller is a technical role within Treasury Finance supporting the Global Markets and Treasury business. The position ensures that portfolio valuations are accurate, independently verified and supported by appropriate adjustments, governance and controls. It covers the valuation-control lifecycle, including Independent Price Verification, Fair Value Adjustments, Day 1 profit-and-loss treatment, fair-value hierarchy assessments and regulatory oversight across traded products. The role operates in a trading and treasury environment where valuation differences can have financial and regulatory consequences. It therefore requires careful independent challenge, robust documentation and the confidence to work with specialist teams when market data, models or valuation outcomes need further investigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain valuation methodologies, control standards and supporting documentation for traded products.
  • Design and execute Independent Price Verification frameworks using independent market data.
  • Maintain Fair Value Adjustment methodologies and reserves and assess Day 1 P&L recognition, deferral and release.
  • Apply relevant IFRS and internal policy requirements to valuation adjustments and control decisions.
  • Investigate valuation movements, price-verification exceptions, valuation uncertainty and reserve adequacy.
  • Support fair-value hierarchy assessments and related disclosures.
  • Partner with Front Office, Risk, Finance, Quantitative and Technology teams to resolve issues and improve automation.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A postgraduate qualification or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline is required; CFA or FRM is desirable.
  • At least eight years of hands-on experience in Independent Price Verification and/or Fair Value Adjustments is required.
  • Strong knowledge of derivatives, structured products, IFRS 13, ASC 820 and Basel III is required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced mathematical and statistical capability.
  • Programming knowledge in Python or VBA.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills; Calypso, Bloomberg or Reuters experience is advantageous.
