Description

The Cargo Operations Manager oversees day-to-day cargo handling performance across warehouse, ramp and aircraft-loading activities. The role coordinates ground-handling partners and operational teams, maintaining consistent service standards, cargo security and compliance as volumes and operational complexity grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set operational priorities and implement procedures that support safe, efficient and commercially effective cargo handling.
  • Monitor warehouse and ramp performance, unit load device handling, palletised freight, bulk loading and service-provider delivery.
  • Review operational indicators, investigate incidents and service failures, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Coordinate with ground handlers, airline teams and government authorities to support the lawful movement of cargo, courier and mail.
  • Maintain cargo procedures and operational documentation, ensuring updates receive appropriate review and approval.
  • Oversee cargo security, safety and risk controls in cooperation with relevant internal functions and external partners.
  • Support resource planning, infrastructure improvements and the handling of specialist cargo categories where applicable.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and fluent English are specified.
  • At least eight years of relevant cargo, freight, aviation ground-operations or ground-handling experience is required.
  • Experience managing sizeable operational teams is expected.
  • Relevant dangerous-goods, aviation-security and cargo product training is important; IATA CBTA, UAE GCAA or equivalent credentials may apply.
  • Candidates should understand operational safety systems, ground-handling contracts and regulated cargo workflows.

Skills and Professional Expectations

  • Strong operational leadership, incident management and performance-monitoring skills.
  • Effective communication with service providers, regulators and internal departments.
  • Sound judgement during time-sensitive operational disruptions.
  • A consistent commitment to safety, security, service quality and documentation.

The successful candidate should maintain accurate records, communicate clearly and follow relevant safety, confidentiality, quality and professional standards. Teamwork, sound judgement and timely escalation of concerns are important.
