Description
ABB is seeking a Senior Field Service Engineer specialising in System 800xA Safety for its service activities in Doha, Qatar. This role supports customers using integrated control and safety systems and involves delivering complex field service work at customer sites or remotely. The engineer will help maintain system performance, resolve technical issues, coordinate site activities and support customer satisfaction. The position reports to a Project Manager and contributes to the Energy Industries business in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving System 800xA safety systems, using remote support or on-site service activities as appropriate.
- Plan and prepare site work for the wider project team, including coordination and supervision of subcontractors.
- Complete service work in line with customer orders, agreed schedules, technical requirements and applicable procedures.
- Communicate work plans, progress and expectations clearly to customers to support service quality and long-term relationships.
- Identify additional service opportunities and communicate potential improvements to customers and internal teams.
- Coach technicians and engineers and supervise complex activities carried out at customer locations.
- Support improvements to installed systems and operational performance through practical technical recommendations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years in customer support, project or service engineering for System 800xA-based safety systems.
- Hands-on experience with System 800xA integrated control and safety hardware and software, AC800MHI library-based application development, project execution and commissioning.
- Knowledge of functional safety management systems and IEC 61511 and IEC 61508 standards.
- Practical knowledge of cybersecurity for 800xA systems, industrial networks, network switch configuration, Modbus RTU/TCP and OPC communications.
Skills and Employment Details
An analytical, adaptable and self-directed approach is essential, together with clear customer communication and the ability to guide site teams. Functional safety credentials such as TUV Functional Safety Engineer or relevant ABB certifications are preferred. This is a full-time, on-site engineering opportunity in Doha, Qatar.
