Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology

Brief Job Description:

The College of Health Sciences (CoHS) at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) invites outstanding candidates to apply for the full-time faculty position in Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology

The starting date of the appointment is January 2026. The successful candidate will be involved in teaching and developing undergraduate level courses, contributing to research within ADU and abroad, and supervising students in their practicum.

The CoHS offers BSc. in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Laboratory Medicine, Molecular and Medical Genetics , Environmental Health and Safety, Public Health and Clinical Psychology and Mental Health. And Masters in Public Health and in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health. There are opportunities for multidisciplinary inter-college collaborative research across ADU, and inter-institutional research collaborations in the Abu Dhabi area and U.A.E.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Clinical Psychology and Mental Health program such as Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Assessment, Psychopathology, Counseling Techniques, and Psychotherapy.

2. Conduct research and other scholarly activities in the areas of clinical psychology, mental health, psychotherapy, psychological assessment, or related fields.

3. Advance and disseminate knowledge through publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals relevant to clinical psychology and mental health.

4. Advise, mentor, and supervise graduate students and/or undergraduate in seminars, tutorials, internships, and research projects.

5. Design and implement experiential learning activities (e.g, clinical simulations, role-plays, supervised practice, case studies) to support the development of clinical competencies.

6. Participate in the ongoing development and periodic review of program curricula and practicum components to ensure alignment with academic standards and accreditation requirements.

7. Support continuous assessment and improvement of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness across didactic and practical components.

8. Contribute to raising community awareness on mental health topics through outreach, seminars, or collaborative initiatives in the UAE.

9. Participate actively in departmental, college, and university service, including committees and administrative responsibilities.

10. Engage in national and international professional networks and activities in the field of clinical psychology and mental health.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Use strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepare and delivers current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating manner

2. Continually assess course objectives and instructional methods to improve teaching and learning

3. Use formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program outcomes

4. Demonstrate a familiarity with a variety of instructional delivery methods, including digital platforms, group activities, and portfolios to provide educational content and opportunities supported by evidence-based research and individual expertise

5. Demonstrate a familiarity with Blackboard and other learning management systems

6. Prepare comprehensive course syllabus, to include approved student learning objectives/outcome evaluation form

7. Work collaboratively with the program faculty, affiliated sites, and other academic units, as well as government agencies to effectively address Abu Dhabi and national program priorities related to clinical psychology and mental health

8. Teach courses for the MSc and BSc program in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health program.

9. Direct student’s research and conduct research in collaboration with others

10. Perform student academic advisement, hold office hours, and provide support to students with regard to program choices and career possibilities

11. Support ADU’s outcomes initiatives by working to refine and revise course assignments and evaluation tools and participating in data analysis discussions to make program and course improvements

12. Facilitate development and revision of curricula and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as university/Commission for Academic Accreditation curriculum standards

13. Attend commencement, faculty meetings, department meetings, committee meetings, professional development programs, and other university events, as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. PhD in Clinical Psychology from an internationally accredited university, preferably from top 200 universities as per the QS World University Rankings 2022

2. Expertise in clinical psychology and mental health, its clinical applications, clinical assessments, diagnosis, and interventions.

3. Record of successful teaching at postgraduate or undergraduate level in the field of Clinical Psychology and Mental Health.

4. Clinical Psychologist license with DOH/ DHA / HCPC UK / United States practice license or its eligibility to apply for licensure.

5. Proven record of teaching, program planning, and problem-solving skills

6. A record of peer-reviewed publications

7. Familiarity with or ability to become familiar with the grant university system and its mission on academic excellence and community outreach

8. Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
