Research Export Control Senior Specialist

This position contributes to research compliance and export control through professional judgement and collaboration. The successful candidate will deliver agreed objectives, maintain accurate records and support consistent, high-quality outcomes within the department’s priorities and approved scope.

Key Responsibilities

Support the review of research activities, collaborations, equipment, software, data and transfers for potential export-control or related compliance concerns. Interpret applicable institutional procedures and relevant regulatory requirements, maintain screening and review records, coordinate with researchers and administrative teams, and advise on risk mitigation and approvals. Develop guidance and training, monitor changes to procedures, support audits and investigations, and escalate complex cases to authorized compliance or legal teams. Help ensure research can proceed responsibly while protecting sensitive technology and information.

Requirements and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in compliance, law, international trade, research administration or a related field is relevant; significant experience in export controls, research compliance, sanctions screening or regulated operations is beneficial. Candidates should have strong research and documentation skills, sound judgement, discretion and the ability to explain requirements to technical and non-technical audiences. Familiarity with controlled technology, screening workflows and audit-ready records is advantageous.
