Description
The Helper assists technicians and supervisors with routine, corrective, and emergency maintenance across building services. Work may involve HVAC, electrical, plumbing, civil, fire and life-safety, and related facility systems. The role focuses on preparing work areas, moving tools and materials, supporting basic tasks under supervision, and keeping plant rooms and service areas clean. Following instructions and safety procedures is essential to help technical teams complete work efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist technicians during inspections, repair activities, preventive maintenance, and urgent service requests.
- Carry tools, spare parts, materials, and equipment to work locations and help prepare the work area.
- Support loading, unloading, movement, and safe storage of materials and consumables.
- Help with basic maintenance tasks only under the direction and supervision of qualified personnel.
- Keep plant rooms, workshops, service areas, and workspaces tidy and free from avoidable hazards.
- Use appropriate PPE, follow instructions, and report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment promptly.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent is preferred, along with one to two years of relevant practical experience.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Basic awareness of workplace safety and willingness to follow instructions carefully.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a cooperative attitude when supporting technicians and supervisors.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to organise materials and tools and keep track of assigned items.
- Good listening skills and readiness to ask for clarification before carrying out unfamiliar tasks.
- Basic teamwork and communication with colleagues across maintenance disciplines.
- Commitment to housekeeping, safe working methods, and completing assigned support tasks on time.
