Description
The Assistant Safety Officer supports workplace health and safety activities by helping monitor conditions, maintain records and encourage safe work practices. The role works with supervisors and employees to identify hazards, communicate controls and follow up corrective actions. Observation, accurate documentation and a prevention-focused approach are essential. The successful candidate is expected to approach assigned work professionally, follow established procedures and communicate clearly with colleagues and customers. Work should be completed carefully, with issues raised early rather than left unresolved.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up assigned corrective actions with supervisors and report delays or recurring concerns.
- Support toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness activities as directed by the safety team.
- Encourage employees and contractors to raise concerns promptly and follow established site procedures.
- Assist with workplace inspections, hazard observations and recording of unsafe conditions or near-miss events.
- Help communicate safe-work procedures, personal protective equipment requirements and emergency arrangements.
- Maintain inspection checklists, training records, incident documentation and action trackers.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Safety-related training or an appropriate technical qualification is beneficial.
- Awareness of workplace hazard identification, incident reporting and basic risk-control practices.
- Ability to maintain records accurately and communicate safety matters clearly.
- Confidence interacting with employees and contractors in a respectful, practical manner.
- Commitment to prevention, safe behaviour and timely escalation of serious risks.
