Assistant Buyer – Menswear

The Assistant Buyer supports menswear buying from market research and seasonal planning through samples, costing, order management and launch readiness. The role connects buying with design, planning, sourcing, quality, logistics, visual merchandising and creative teams. The focus is on accurate product information, commercially relevant ranges and reliable delivery so that items reach stores or digital channels at the expected price, quality and time.

Key Responsibilities

• Research customer preferences, competitor ranges, fabrics, product technology and seasonal trends; analyse previous sales to identify best sellers and gaps.
• Work with design teams on collections, colours, samples and range development, using approved technical packs and category direction.
• Follow up with suppliers on sample creation, costing, product changes, production readiness, onboarding and agreed delivery dates.
• Update product attributes and pricing in PLM systems, coordinate quantities and territory allocation with planning, and track order confirmations and shipment readiness.
• Partner with quality and logistics teams on fit sessions, material approvals, inspections and delivery issues, then monitor sell-through and document seasonal learnings.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Have a relevant bachelor’s degree and two to five years of experience in buying, product development, merchandising or a retail category environment.
• Understand garment construction, fabrics, product development, costing and the end-to-end buying process.
• Experience with lifestyle, athleisure, performance wear or similar fashion categories is advantageous.
• Exposure to supplier management, sourcing, open costing, PLM systems, retail dashboards or Power BI is beneficial.
• Be organized, commercially aware and comfortable coordinating multiple products, supplier actions and overlapping seasonal timelines.

Skills

Good numerical ability, detail-oriented data management, supplier follow-up, trend awareness and cross-functional communication are important for success in this role.
