Description
Position Summary
The Staff Nurse provides direct patient care and coordinates patient care-related activities using the scientific nursing process. Care is rendered to patients across the paediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, ensuring clinical excellence, patient safety, and a compassionate approach aligned with hospital policies and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Coordination
- Accurately identifies patients and ensures proper documentation and verification processes are followed.
- Provides pre- and post-procedure care for all patients.
- Responds promptly and appropriately to urgent or emergency situations, ensuring team coordination.
- Books appointments, procedures, or treatments in line with the physician's treatment plan.
- Coordinates with physicians to follow up on diagnostic tests, informs patients about results and next steps.
- Ensures consultation rooms are clean, well-stocked, and ready for each patient encounter.
- Provides patient education at discharge, including medication instructions and follow-up care.
- Checks and maintains unit equipment including crash cart and refrigeration temperature logs.
- Reports medical equipment due for Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM).
- Ensures CRM tasks are completed within required timelines.
Communication & Coordination
- Contacts patients to inform them of approved lab or imaging services, and ensures appropriate scheduling.
- Maintains effective communication with patients, keeping them informed about the status of their clinical and administrative requests.
- Collaborates with insurance coordinators to obtain and follow up on prior authorizations and approvals.
- Coordinates surgical procedures with the Operating Room (OR) Coordinator and patients, as applicable.
- Provides timely updates to physicians and relevant departments regarding patient care needs and issues.
Clinical Competency
- Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in medication administration, including chemotherapy and blood/blood product transfusions.
- Maintains competencies in venous access, including peripheral IVs and all types of central venous lines.
- Promotes and maintains a safe, therapeutic environment for both patients and staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (minimum 3 years full-time course)
or - Diploma in Nursing (minimum 3 years full-time nursing education)
- Valid License/Registration to practice nursing in the home country and/or last place of employment
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) / Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (essential)
Professional Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent post-graduate experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting
- Proven ability to provide age-appropriate care to paediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
- Skilled in clinical assessment, care coordination, and prioritizing care based on individual needs
- Strong knowledge of outpatient nursing protocols and documentation standards
