Description
A licensed professional nurse responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based direct and indirect patient care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care for critically ill patients, while collaborating with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Safety
- Provides age-appropriate and individualized critical care nursing.
- Performs comprehensive assessment and monitoring of patient and family’s physical and psychological needs.
- Implements nursing interventions in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and evidence-based practice.
- Assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
- Ensures safe handling, administration, and documentation of Narcotic/Controlled Drugs.
- Maintains accurate and complete documentation as per hospital standards.
- Ensures a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Leads or participates in multidisciplinary rounds, ensuring effective communication of patient care plans.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure efficient and coordinated care delivery.
- Serves as team leader or charge nurse when required, demonstrating strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Floats to other units as needed to provide staffing support.
Professional Development
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development and completion of ICU core competencies.
- Participates in unit-based and hospital-wide CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) activities.
- Completes yearly critical care competencies, with willingness to progress toward intermediate and advanced levels.
Education & Training
- Assesses and provides patient and family education, customized to age and condition.
- Acts as a preceptor/mentor to new staff and shares professional knowledge with colleagues.
- Participates in hospital-mandated training programs, including fire safety, infection control, and emergency procedures.
Administrative & Miscellaneous
- Participates in unit meetings, committees, and projects.
- Maintains up-to-date awareness of infection control standards, reporting as required.
- Assists with unit goal-setting and supports organizational mission and values.
- Demonstrates problem-solving and critical thinking skills in clinical and team environments.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (minimum of 3 years full-time study), OR
- Diploma in Nursing (minimum of 3 academic years focused on nursing), OR
- Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (minimum of 3 academic years post-1998 with pre-medical secondary school certificate or equivalent).
Licensure & Certifications
- Current license to practice nursing in home country and/or last country of employment.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
Professional Experience

Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an ICU or critical care setting.
