Description
The Specialist Physician is responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care under the supervision of a Consultant Physician. The role involves diagnosing and treating patients within the post holder’s area of specialty in compliance with facility protocols, SEHA policies, and Department of Health (DOH) standards. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Specialist supports divisional quality initiatives, contributes to medical education, and fosters a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Key Responsibilities & Activities
Clinical Duties- Diagnose and treat patients in accordance with established best practices and clinical protocols.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient services including regular reassessment and documentation of patient care.
- Review and interpret diagnostic results and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained.
- Participate in regular ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Accept and appropriately manage referrals from Emergency, Primary Care, and other departments.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of clinical notes in line with hospital standards.
- Liaise with other specialties to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
- Provide after-hours and on-call coverage as per the departmental roster.
- Assist Consultant Physicians in supervising junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
- Actively participate in clinical education, mentoring, and training of residents and interns.
- Support national development programs and mentor UAE national staff where applicable.
- Comply with and promote patient safety initiatives and infection control protocols.
- Participate in clinical audits and support the integration of audit findings into practice improvement.
- Report untoward incidents and contribute to investigation and follow-up processes.
- Attend divisional meetings and contribute to performance improvement projects.
- Support the implementation of performance management systems, including utilization review.
- Perform other clinical or administrative duties as requested by the Consultant or department leadership.
- Maintain licensure and complete mandatory trainings within defined timeframes.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications- Medical degree from an internationally recognized institution.
- Current national license or equivalent recognized by DOH.
- Specialty board certification from one of the following:
- Tier 1: No post-certification experience required.
- Tier 2: Minimum 2 years clinical experience post-certification in an internationally accredited institution.
- Tier 3: Minimum 3 years clinical experience post-certification in an internationally accredited institution.
- UAE Nationals: No post-board experience required.
- UAE and Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD-accredited residency programs: No post-board experience required.
- Advanced certifications, sub-specialty training, or research publications (preferred but not required).
