Description

We are seeking a skilled and decisive Nursing Shift Supervisor to lead nursing operations across assigned units or wards during designated shifts. This role involves managing staff performance, patient flow, clinical documentation, and coordination across hospital services. The supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of care, ensuring appropriate bed and staff allocation, and supporting both clinical and administrative functions.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Coordination

  • Provide operational leadership and mentorship to nursing teams within assigned units
  • Report concerns and performance updates to Senior Charge Nurse or Unit Manager
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary departments to resolve issues impacting care
  • Lead or participate in committees and task forces focused on service improvement

Clinical & Operational Management

  • Optimize bed utilization and staff skill mix based on patient acuity
  • Promote continuity of care with a focus on safe discharge planning
  • Perform hospital rounds to assess unit conditions and guide clinical service delivery
  • Ensure proper nursing documentation per organizational policies

Communication & Collaboration

  • Liaise effectively with internal and external healthcare providers
  • Facilitate clear communication between patients, families, and care teams
  • Ensure timely coordination for admissions, discharges, and transfers
  • Utilize healthcare information systems to manage patient data securely

Quality, Safety & Risk Management

  • Monitor nursing care quality and participate in audits and accreditation activities
  • Support implementation of evidence-based practices to promote clinical excellence
  • Oversee incident reporting and infection control compliance after hours
  • Ensure alignment with HAAD Patient Safety Goals and internal KPIs

Education & Health Promotion

  • Support staff in patient and family education efforts
  • Promote community health awareness programs and internal training
  • Encourage continuous professional development and maintain personal portfolio
  • Address and report staff conduct or performance concerns appropriately

🎓 Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); Master’s in Nursing or Healthcare Management preferred
Licensure & Certifications
  • Registered Nurse licensed or eligible under DoH
  • TNCC, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
Experience
  • 5–7 years of clinical nursing experience in ED or trauma settings
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Knowledge of SEHA policies and trauma care standards
