Description
The Pediatric Endocrinology Consultant is responsible for delivering expert medical care to children and adolescents with endocrine and metabolic disorders. This role encompasses the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of conditions such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid dysfunction, growth abnormalities, and puberty disorders. The Consultant will serve as a clinical leader, contribute to the development of junior staff, support research efforts, and uphold both local and international standards of clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care- Diagnose and manage a full range of pediatric endocrine disorders including:
- Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
- Growth hormone deficiencies
- Disorders of puberty, adrenal, and thyroid glands
- Deliver family-centered inpatient and outpatient care.
- Interpret and monitor laboratory results, imaging studies, and hormone profiles.
- Develop and implement comprehensive treatment and follow-up plans.
- Ensure informed consent and age-appropriate communication with patients and families.
- Work closely with a team of pediatricians, dietitians, diabetes educators, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate actively in case conferences, ward rounds, and clinical team discussions.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students.
- Provide continuing education and contribute to departmental CME programs.
- Engage in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and patient safety initiatives.
- Contribute to and/or lead clinical research and publication efforts.
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely medical records in accordance with DOH and hospital standards.
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and ethical medical practice guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Training- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of residency and fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology from a recognized program.
- Board Certification in Pediatric Endocrinology:
- Accepted Boards: American Board, CCT (UK), FRACP (Australia), MRCPCH, or equivalent.
- DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi) license or eligibility to obtain one.
- Minimum 3–5 years post-certification experience as a Consultant in Pediatric Endocrinology.
- Proven track record of clinical excellence and leadership in pediatric subspecialty care.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
- Effective communicator with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Commitment to continuous medical education and evidence-based practice.
- Fluency in English (Arabic is an advantage).
