Description

The Pediatric Endocrinology Consultant is responsible for delivering expert medical care to children and adolescents with endocrine and metabolic disorders. This role encompasses the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of conditions such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid dysfunction, growth abnormalities, and puberty disorders. The Consultant will serve as a clinical leader, contribute to the development of junior staff, support research efforts, and uphold both local and international standards of clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care
  • Diagnose and manage a full range of pediatric endocrine disorders including:
    • Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
    • Growth hormone deficiencies
    • Disorders of puberty, adrenal, and thyroid glands
  • Deliver family-centered inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Interpret and monitor laboratory results, imaging studies, and hormone profiles.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment and follow-up plans.
  • Ensure informed consent and age-appropriate communication with patients and families.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work closely with a team of pediatricians, dietitians, diabetes educators, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate actively in case conferences, ward rounds, and clinical team discussions.
Education & Mentorship
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students.
  • Provide continuing education and contribute to departmental CME programs.
Research & Quality Improvement
  • Engage in clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Contribute to and/or lead clinical research and publication efforts.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely medical records in accordance with DOH and hospital standards.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and ethical medical practice guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Training
  • Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of residency and fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology from a recognized program.
Certification
  • Board Certification in Pediatric Endocrinology:
    • Accepted Boards: American Board, CCT (UK), FRACP (Australia), MRCPCH, or equivalent.
  • DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi) license or eligibility to obtain one.
Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years post-certification experience as a Consultant in Pediatric Endocrinology.
  • Proven track record of clinical excellence and leadership in pediatric subspecialty care.
Skills
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Effective communicator with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Commitment to continuous medical education and evidence-based practice.
  • Fluency in English (Arabic is an advantage).
