Description
- 1 Clinic Assistant is assisting Physician/ Registered Nurse/ Midwife with non-Nursing duties for patients with various healthcare needs.
- 2 Clinic Assistant assist in performing routine nonclinical tasks under the supervision of a Physician/ Registered Nurse/ Midwife.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Physician in clinic, including accessing, adding, and modifying patients’ medical records under supervision.
- Request necessary laboratory investigations based on physician orders.
- Support the clinical team by collecting medical reports from various departments.
- Assist in providing high-quality care to patients and families under the supervision of Physician/Registered Nurse/Midwife.
- Demonstrate competence in care provision while promoting dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Perform basic care under direction of Physician/Registered Nurse/Midwife.
- Support patients in becoming independent and active under supervision.
- Provide patient comfort before physician assessment; transport patients for fetal medicine if needed.
- Assist in transferring patients to other departments.
- Transport patient records between departments.
- Support nursing staff and ward clerk in clerical, administrative, and reception duties.
- Assist in maintaining stock and non-medical supplies.
- Develop and use effective communication skills; handle and relay telephone messages.
- Use patient care equipment correctly; report issues to the nurse/midwife in charge.
- Cover ward clerk duties in their absence.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to the Registered Nurse/Midwife in charge.
- Liaise with Registered Nurse/Midwife regarding equipment and consumable needs.
- Ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Deliver high-quality customer service for a positive patient experience.
- Identify unsafe practices and support corrective actions.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, staff, and organizational information.
- Escalate concerns based on urgency appropriately.
- Promote and understand positive health practices.
- Follow hospital policies; report sickness or accidents to Physician/Nurse/Midwife/Nurse Manager.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, adhering to policies, procedures, local, and JCI standards.
- Perform other duties as requested by Physician/Senior Nursing Staff within the scope of practice.
- Safeguard patients' belongings and valuables in line with procedures.
- Administer emergency measures and seek appropriate advice.
- Preserve patient privacy and dignity.
- Report changes in patients' conditions to Physician/Nurse/Midwife.
- Maintain and enhance own knowledge and skills; take responsibility for personal development.
- Attend in-service trainings, workshops, and meetings as required.
- Set personal goals and standards for improvement.
- Understand and commit to NMC policies; respect legal and ethical boundaries.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication.
- Be flexible and work collaboratively as a team member.
- Show cultural sensitivity.
- Accept direction from Registered Nurse/Midwife in problem-solving.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Be aware of health and safety regulations relevant to the unit.
- Know fire precautions and regulations.
- Be familiar with all hospital codes and emergency contact procedures.
- Contribute to organizational development where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with hospital health and safety regulations.
- Follow instructions and meet work demands accurately.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by the line manager.
- Assist Doctor during consultations by preparing examination areas.
- Ensure clinic cleanliness and manage medical waste as per hospital/DOH guidelines.
- Clean treatment rooms after each procedure.
- Pre-clean instruments before sending them to CSSD for sterilization.
- Clean and tag equipment after every use.
- Maintain inventory of clinical trays and surgical instruments.
- Assist in outpatient clinics as needed; remain flexible in assignments.
- Consistently follow NMC policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintain confidentiality per organizational policies and agreements.
- Understand and adhere to the Emergency Preparedness Plan.
- Participate in mandatory training and workshops.
- Dress appropriately according to organizational policy and UAE culture.
- Follow OSH and infection control policies and cooperate with hospital management.
- Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses; assist in risk assessments and reports.
- Comply with waste management procedures.
- Attend OSH/Infection Control training, mock drills, and awareness programs.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Nursing qualification background (can be in a healthcare-related field)
- Two or more years of experience in a hospital environment or nursing experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate preferred
- Computer literate
- Good communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills
