Description
Position Title: Senior PR & Comms Specialist
Department: Marketing Department
JOB PURPOSE
To develop and execute strategic public relations and communications initiatives that enhance the reputation and visibility of the University locally, regionally, and internationally. The role is responsible for media relations, press releases, crisis communications, and internal and external communications, ensuring consistency of brand voice and alignment with the University’s mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the University’s PR and communications strategy in alignment with institutional goals and marketing plans.Manage proactive media outreach, build relationships with journalists, and secure coverage in relevant print, broadcast, and digital outlets. Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, media statements, opinion pieces, feature articles, and speeches for senior leadership. Handle crisis communication and reputation management, acting as a key contact during sensitive or high-profile issues.Lead internal communications initiatives to engage faculty, staff, and students. Coordinate press conferences, media interviews, and other PR events; serve as media liaison when needed. Translate content (English–Arabic and Arabic–English) as required to support both internal and external communications.Create high-quality content for all University communication channels, including email announcements, newsletters, website articles, official letters, and talking points for University leadership. Monitor media coverage and produce regular reports with insights and recommendations.Collaborate closely with social media and digital teams to ensure messaging consistency across platforms.Support communications needs for University events, including graduation ceremonies, MoUs, strategic partnerships, and academic conferences.Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership and academic stakeholders on media engagement and communication best practices.Ensure compliance with relevant government and higher education communication standards and cultural sensitivities in the UAE.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Minimum Educational Qualifications Required for the Role Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred but not required.
Minimum Years of Experience Required:7 years
Nature of Relevant Experience Required:
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in public relations or communications, preferably in higher education or agency.Demonstrated experience in media relations, corporate communications, and crisis management.Experience working in the UAE is highly preferred.Background in education or government sectors is an advantage.
Language Skills:Must Bilingual (English + Arabic)
