The eCommerce Application Architecture role defines technical designs for enterprise e-commerce and business applications. It translates business requirements into scalable, secure and supportable solutions across applications, SaaS platforms, cloud services, integrations and data flows. The architect guides technology choices, modernization and engineering standards while ensuring designs fit wider enterprise architecture, security and operational requirements. The role also evaluates where AI and automation can add practical value and helps delivery teams turn approved designs into reliable production systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end e-commerce application architectures spanning enterprise platforms, custom applications, cloud services and packaged systems.
- Translate business requirements into solution options, documenting trade-offs, dependencies, technical risks and cost-benefit considerations.
- Guide application teams on APIs, modular design, integrations, data movement, scalability, maintainability and production readiness.
- Assess suitable AI and automation use cases and ensure privacy, access control, auditability and responsible-use requirements are considered.
- Support modernization, platform consolidation, technical-debt reduction and cloud adoption where they improve business and technical outcomes.
- Prepare architecture diagrams and decision records, contribute to reviews and mentor engineering teams on standards and patterns.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Ten or more years in application development, technology delivery, technical architecture or enterprise systems, including architecture experience.
- Experience designing large-scale enterprise applications, ideally in retail, e-commerce, hospitality or supply chain.
- Practical experience with one or more programming languages such as Java or Python.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms, APIs, integration patterns, security, CI/CD and operational monitoring.
Required Skills
Important strengths include end-to-end solution design, architecture governance, problem-solving, communication and cross-functional leadership. Experience with e-commerce platforms, AI-enabled applications, cloud security, identity management, observability and deployment automation is valuable.
