Senior Data Scientist II – Personalization

Careem is seeking a Senior Data Scientist II - Personalization in Dubai to help shape the AI systems that determine what customers see and in what order across Food, Quik and Shops. The role is a senior technical position within the Personalization team, focused on recommendation, ranking, retrieval and real-time learning. The successful candidate will combine advanced machine learning expertise with strong product thinking and the ability to turn large-scale behavioral data into measurable improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Own hyper-personalization use cases across Food, Quik and Shops using real-time user intent and preference signals.
• Lead exploration of graph-based retrieval, knowledge-graph pipelines and scalable candidate-generation approaches.
• Design and evaluate transformer-based architectures for sequential and contextual recommendation.
• Advance online and streaming learning approaches that can adapt to user behavior within a session.
• Identify reusable personalization infrastructure and signals across multiple Careem verticals.
• Explore generative AI, LLM and retrieval-augmented generation applications within personalization.
• Perform exploratory analysis and behavioral modelling to identify product and growth opportunities.
• Build scalable machine-learning algorithms for production environments and define initiative-level metrics.
• Design and analyze randomized controlled experiments and communicate findings to product and business teams.
• Provide data-driven recommendations, root-cause analysis and technical direction for product decisions.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of experience in data mining, predictive modelling, machine learning and Big Data methodologies.
• Advanced degree in Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or another quantitative discipline.
• 2–4 years of industry experience in personalization, recommendation or search is required.
• Strong experience with deep learning, attention mechanisms, retrieval and transformer-based architectures.
• Strong coding and problem-solving ability with Python, SQL, Spark and Hive.
• Solid understanding of recommendation, ranking and retrieval systems.
• Knowledge of A/B testing and classical and deep learning methods.
• Experience with knowledge graphs, streaming learning, relevant databases or BI tools is advantageous.
