Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage a team of underwriters, enhance productivity, instrumental in building quality portfolio, ensure lending within Banks’s defined risk appetite. Ensure protecting portfolio, sound & judicious credit decisions within authority level including exceptions referred to the department on capability of repayment, business, economic, capital input, collateral available and recommendation on 360-degree review/assessment to higher level as per discretionary authority matrix.
  • Assist in developing credit risk assessment, ensure Standard Operating Procedures are available and updated on a timely manner and the team is adhering to the same.
  • Ensure accurate capacity planning, resource utilization, training and back up creations are available within the team ensuring SLAs are met and there is no impact to smooth BAU functioning.
  • Assist the Head of Initiation in monitoring risk and market trends to suggest amendments in policies to minimize risk and improve quality. Ensure that the unit achieves an acceptable risk rating in all internal and external audits. To be effective to take initiatives, review Portfolio indicators, MIS, KPI, Past Dues, Delinquency, Monitoring, Early Alert reports etc. and taking pro-active and corrective approach and timely mentoring & coaching teams on effective risk management. Regular review & re-engineer processes, build culture of best practices, digital capability on Credit BAU, regular market and industry dynamic updates and sharing with team/stakeholders for BAU effectiveness.
  • Implement and monitor MIS & KPI reports for team performance, optimum team productivity, error rates, approval, decline, adherence to SLA. Act as a business enabler and provide solutions to onboard and retain quality clientele, enhancing the portfolio health.
  • Examine and investigate reported problems to incorporate corrective actions. Effective stakeholder management, conflict management, negotiation management. Effective collaboration with Policy, Product, Collections (SAM) department for quality portfolio growth.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills, ability to motivate, coach, drive & collaborate in a team. Bridge the skill-set gap of team members, recognize, identify and suggest/give trainings for enhancing their knowledge, skill-set and productivity. Effectively managing the team and continuously striving to improve productivity rates. Develop and enhance the technical and behavioral competencies of the team by assigning relevant trainings. Coach, train and develop skillset of staff within the team.
  • Take judicious decisions within delegated authority, regulatory guidelines and sharia principles while approving / recommending credit proposals for higher escalation, Incorporate and comply with the bank's core values especially the Customer First in day to-day activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to write business proposals and technical reports in a clear, concise and well-organized manner. Good business sense, strategic thinker, wide degree of creativity and latitude, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, flexibility, high energy level.
  • Perform cross functional resource allocation within unit as and when needed (synergies). Ensure all assigned tasks, projects are accomplished within delegated timelines and in accordance to agrees procedures and policy.
  • All the above accountabilities includes but not limited to any additional/new tasks or responsibilities assigned by the line Manager.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 7-8 years of experience, mainly in financial services industry, preferably in Retail Credit underwriting environment.

Education:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting/ finance/ Statistics/ Commerce preferred. Post-Graduate is highly desirable – CA, MBA or equivalent.
