Assistant Operations Manager-Transport

The assistant operations manager supports daily transport services, coordinating drivers, vehicles, routes and operational resources to deliver safe and dependable service. The position combines workforce supervision, service monitoring, customer coordination and operational reporting, with a focus on punctuality, compliance and efficient use of fleet resources. This position is part of transport operations and fleet services and contributes to reliable, professional day-to-day delivery. The successful candidate will follow established procedures, maintain accurate information and work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve agreed standards.

Key Responsibilities

The main responsibilities include the following:

• Coordinate daily vehicle and driver deployment against schedules, service requirements and customer commitments.
• Monitor trip completion, attendance, route disruptions, vehicle readiness and service exceptions, escalating issues quickly.
• Support supervisors and drivers with operational instructions, shift planning, customer updates and incident follow-up.
• Check that vehicles, licences, permits and operating documents are current and that procedures are followed.
• Review performance data, complaints, fuel or utilisation trends and recurring delays to identify improvements.

A practical understanding of the function, sound prioritisation and timely escalation will help protect quality, safety, cost and customer commitments.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Experience in transport, fleet, logistics or a comparable service operation is valuable.
• A relevant diploma or degree and demonstrated team coordination capability are preferred.
• Working knowledge of transport scheduling, fleet records, driver compliance and incident reporting is useful.
• Candidates need clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to manage changing operational priorities.

Candidates should show relevant experience, learn local procedures quickly and meet any required statutory or professional standards.

Skills and Competencies
