Senior Architectural Engineer

Job Purpose:

The Senior Architectural Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of architectural projects, ensuring the integration of sustainable engineering design principles with architectural aesthetics. This role involves managing project teams, collaborating with clients, and ensuring that all designs meet environmental standards and regulations, budgetary constraints, and project timelines.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

• Manage the architectural and engineering aspects of projects from inception to completion.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
• Review and recommend project designs, specifications, and construction documents.
• Discuss and survey the end-user requirements and proposed project.
• Gather information regarding planned function and design of the required space.
• Assess and analyze the architectural and functional conditions of the site and buildings, study the possible alterations and modifications required to perform the project.
• Develop and oversee the creation of architectural designs, ensuring they align with project requirements, and industry standards.
• Integrate engineering solutions into architectural designs to ensure functionality, sustainability, and safety.
• Use advanced software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM) to produce and review design models and blueprints.
• Utilize sustainability assessment tools and software (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, EnergyPlus, and other energy modeling tools) to evaluate and optimize design performance.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior architects, engineers, and design teams.
• Ensure all designs comply with government regulations, building codes, and environmental standards.
• Present design concepts, plans, and progress updates to the management and stakeholders.
• Adjust designs based on management feedback while maintaining project integrity.
• Develop project budgets and timelines in collaboration with project managers.
• Monitor project costs and schedules, making adjustments as necessary to stay on track.
• Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Ensure that all safety protocols and regulations are strictly followed throughout the project lifecycle.
• Implement sustainable quality control measures to ensure that all designs and construction activities meet the highest standards of environmental performance.
• Stay abreast of the latest sustainability trends, technologies, and regulations
• Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
• Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed
• Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Design, or a related field.
• Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly preferred.
• Sustainability certifications are highly desirable.

Required Experience:

• A minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
