Specialist – Data Analyst

Support the Enterprise Command and Control Department in transportation data analytics and modelling activities by executing key projects and tasks in line with departmental standards, policies, and procedures. This role involves extracting meaningful insights using advanced analytics, developing real-time transportation models, and producing specialized analytical reports and dashboards to support evidence-based decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including data engineers and analysts, to classify, analyze, and integrate data from various sources into comprehensive transportation datasets for enhanced modeling and analysis.
• Incorporate various modes of transport into a real-time transportation model, analyze intermodal connectivity, and develop integrated multimodal transportation solutions.
• Conduct core transportation modelling and traffic engineering tasks such as model development, calibration, validation, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
• Perform sensitivity and uncertainty analyses to evaluate model robustness, identify key influencing factors, and measure their impact on model outputs.
• Continuously calibrate and validate the real-time transportation model by comparing outputs with real-world data to improve predictive accuracy and reliability.
• Utilize key performance indicators (e.g., travel times, delays, average speeds) derived from models to generate reports and forecasts supporting decision-making and journey planning.
• Conduct statistical and spatial data analysis, applying advanced data modeling techniques to uncover trends and patterns in multimodal transportation systems.
• Develop, review, and update technical policies, procedures, and documentation in coordination with stakeholders and in alignment with RTA’s document management systems.
• Design and implement data-driven use cases to address multimodal transport challenges, enhance service performance, and improve the operational efficiency of transportation systems.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building by conducting specialized workshops and induction programs for new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned in alignment with the position’s scope and responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or Transportation Planning.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the transportation industry, including hands-on experience with transportation modelling and predictive modeling using machine learning techniques.
• A Master’s degree or additional qualification in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Data Science is highly desirable.

• Proficiency in data science toolkits, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization tools
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, big data platforms, and handling large-scale datasets
• Expertise in spatial data analysis using tools such as QGIS/GIS
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally and manage complex technical tasks in a collaborative environment
