Khalifa University and the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Abu Dhabi, UAE seeks applicants for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Earth Science for Spring 2026. We seek applicants who will strengthen our research and education programs in core and emerging areas of Earth and Energy Sciences.

This position is aimed at applicants with experience in exploration geophysics, specifically basin analysis, seismic stratigraphy and seismic imaging. Applicants with a proven research record in the utilisation of emerging geophysical technologies, including machine learning, are strongly encouraged.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Geophysical Imaging, Plate Tectonics and Geodynamics, Solid Earth and Environmental and Engineering Geophysics.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching

• Deliver high-quality instruction at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
• Prepare and regularly update course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, and teaching aids.
• Develop and contribute to a robust and innovative curriculum.
• Evaluate student performance through exams, coursework, and other assessments.
• Supervise student research, projects, theses, and teaching internships.
• Utilize modern instructional technologies for effective course delivery.

Research & Scholarly Activities

• Conduct original research and publish in reputable journals and conferences.
• Participate in academic seminars, panels, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Apply for and manage research grants and external funding.
• Represent the university at regional and international academic events.

University & Community Service

• Serve on academic and university committees.
• Contribute to student recruitment, mentoring, and extracurricular engagement.
• Support departmental initiatives and collaborate across university units.
• Participate in community outreach, professional organizations, and editorial roles.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.

Required Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Geology or Geoscience, or a related discipline.
2. Record of research excellence commensurate with the applicant’s academic career history.
3. Record of excellence in teaching as appropriate to the applicant’s academic experience.
4. Record of successful graduate student supervision.
5. Record of success in securing and managing funded research projects.
6. Outstanding communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and commitment to a career of academic excellence and innovation.
7. Demonstrated commitment to curriculum development and innovation in university education.
