Scaffolding Design Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Scaffolding Design & Engineering

• Prepare scaffolding designs for:
• Access scaffolds
• Façade scaffolds
• Birdcage scaffolds
• Shoring and temporary access platforms
• Protection fan systems and special scaffolds
• Production:
• General Arrangement (GA) drawings
• Assembly and erection drawings
• 2D and basic 3D models
• Carry out scaffolding design calculations using standard data sheets and structural analysis software’s according to the BS and European codes
• Design scaffolding systems using proprietary products and tube & fitting systems.
• Prepare accurate material take-offs and scaffolding schedules.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all designs comply with:
• Relevant BS/EN Standards (e.g. BS EN 12811, 12812 or local equivalents)
• Project specifications and health & safety requirements
• Apply safe-by-design principles for erection, use, inspection, and dismantling stages.
• Implement checking procedures and respond promptly to design review comments.
• Maintain proper engineering documentation and drawing registers.

Project & Site Support

• Liaise with project teams, site supervisors, and scaffold contractors to understand access and protection requirements.
• Provide technical support during erection and modification stages of scaffolding systems.
• Attend site visits when required to assess conditions, verify installation, and support construction teams.
• Coordinate with suppliers to obtain technical data and standard system configurations.

Team & Communication

• Work closely with Formwork Designers, Engineers, and Draftspersons as part of the temporary works design team.
• Communicate technical information clearly through drawings, sketches, and written documentation.
• Support junior team members and assistant designers where required.

Learning & Continuous Development

• Maintain and develop technical knowledge of scaffolding systems, standards, and products.
• Participate in internal training, and supplier product training.
• Keep up to date with changes in scaffolding regulations and industry best practices.

Educational Qualifications:

Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related discipline.
